Sharan village near the heritage village of Naggar in Kullu district
of Himachal Pradesh is among the 10 villages in the country
selected as a Craft Handloom Village by the Union government.
Rumsu (2200 m) is a small traditional village about 3-4 km from
Naggar. It makes for a quaint experience to see local village
lifestyle in the mountains. From Naggar, the trail leads past
Roerich’s cottage and there is a motorable road to Rumsu, but the
walking path is shorter with stunning views of the valley and the
mountains.
Rumsu is a charming village with old wooden houses; the
residents worship Jamlu Devta (main deity of Malana). The area
around the temple is the centre of activity in Rumsu and is an
impressive one. Leather boots or apparels are not permitted in
the vicinity of the temple. Beware though, as outsiders are
forbidden to touch or enter the temple.
Other than the tiny fall through a short trek up, it is the best place to eat a local thali of makki ki roti, rajma, kadhi, siddu, local ghee and seasonal saag. The drive is littered with the best views of the Kullu valley and pines soaring against the sky on either side. It is especially dreamy in the monsoons with the clouds moving in and out of these trees.
The special wildlife attraction of Kais Wildlife Sanctuary is the Brown Bear and the Himalayan Black Bear. This hilly region is a favorite place for all types of bear. Apart from different types of bears, this area has huge numbers of Barking Deer, Musk Deer, Hyena, Himalayan Tahr, Snow Leopards, and Monals. Varieties of birds like Pheasants, Cheer, Peacock, Western Tragopan, Hornbill, Cheer etc. are also found in this area. The distance from Naggar Village to Kais Wildlife Sanctuary is just 11 Kms .
Kullu's most dense forest - Green valley
A small and bustling town is just a stone's throw away from Manali. It has Hot springs and thee most magnificent waterfall - Jogini Falls. A half hour hike up through a beautiful forest and scenic views of the valley, the waterfall lies in a gigantic cave. A glorious sight fo sure and worth the climb.
